Ulaanbaatar, Mongolia - 06 March 2009- A five day training session on CDMA 1x RTT and CDMA 1x EVDO was successfully conducted by the Central Asian Cellular Forum from 02nd to 06th March, 2009 at the conference room of Bayangol Hotel, Ulaanbaatar, Mongolia. The event was actively supported by QUALCOMM Incorporated, USA and the CDMA Development Group (CDG).

The training session was well attended by professionals from Skytel and G-Mobile, the two 3G CDMA wireless operators in the country. Skytel is the largest 3G CDMA mobile operator in Mongolia which is also offering EVDO services. Skytel operates its network in 800 MHz and is currently offering EVDO Rel-0 as well as EVDO Rev. A services.

The second CDMA operator G-Mobile was founded in 2006 and is a 100% national company and is also offering EVDO services. G-Mobile operates in the 450 MHz band.

The main objective of the training program was to improve the technical skill level of the participants as the operators are planning a major network upgrade and expansion of its broadband service via the EVDO technology.  The workshop was very essential due to the fact that the internet penetration in Mongolia is quite low. Few years ago the government implemented a campaign to distribute one PC in each house, the average cost of which was USD800. Twenty thousand laptops have been supplied to the households for free.

The training session was conducted by Dr. Syed Ismail Shah, who heads the CACF CDMA HR Development Centre and is known for conducting wireless technologies training across the globe especially in 3G technologies. A total of 19 professionals attended the workshop.

At the conclusion of the event, efforts of the Central Asian Cellular Forum and QUALCOMM towards development of much required 3G Human Resource were well applauded by the participating organizations. Later certificates were also distributed amongst the participants.
