Tashkent, Uzbekistan - 16th October 2008- A training session on CDMA 2000 1XRTT and EVDO was successfully conducted by the Central Asian Cellular Forum from 11th to 16th October, 2008 at the ITM Training Centre, Tashkent, Uzbekistan. The event was actively supported by QUALCOMM Incorporated and the CDMA Development Group (CDG). Whereas, Uzbek Telecom, Uzmobile, and ITM were the main sponsors for the training event.

The training sessions was well attended by engineering professionals associated with the CDMA and GSM and WCDMA technology that included mobile and WLL operators from Uzbekistan. The training session amongst other was attended by professionals from Uzbek Telecom, Uzmobile, MTS, PerfectumMobile, EVO, NEC, Uzmobile and ITM.

The main objective of the training program was to improve the technical skill level of the engineering professionals specially related with the development of CDMA and WCDMA technology in the country.

In his opening address the first Deputy of General Director of Uzbek Telecom & Director of the ITM appreciated the efforts of CACF and QUALCOMM Inc., for their efforts to improve the HR of the CDMA industry.

The training session was conducted by Dr. Ismail Shah, who is the Head of CDMA HR Development Centre and is a senior professor for conducting wireless technologies training around the globe specially in 3G technologies. The trainees from various companies and the Director of the ITM Centre appreciated the effort of the CACF and said that the training has helped them understand the CDMA technology better and they shall use this knowledge base for growth of CDMA based wireless networks for their company and will ensure better deployment of network and services.

The courses conducted included the following modules:

CDMA 2000 Basic Engineering
CDMA2000 1xEV-DO Release 0
CDMA 2000 1xEV-DO Network Planning

The training session was part of the series of training sessions being planned by Central Asian Cellular Forum in the CIS for development of Human Resource Development in the region.

The training session was a great success providing an unprecedented opportunity to mobile and WLL operators and other professionals from the Uzbekistan to learn more about the CDMA 2000 technology.

At the conclusion of the training session certificates were awarded to successful attendees by Dr. Syed Ismail Shah and the Director of the ITM, a Telecom Institute of Uzbek Telecom. Some of the participants who also spoke on the occasion appreciated the efforts of CACF and QUALCOMM for holding such a useful training session.

TM and CACF has also agreed to hold similar sessions in future for which an MoU shall be signed next month to formalize the relation for providing training services in the CIS specially in Uzbekistan.
